“During the same period of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2016, the European Cultural Centre presents its exhibition ›VENICE DESIGN 2016‹ in one of its prestigious Palazzi in Venice, Palazzo Michiel.

VENICE DESIGN 2016 is one of the first exhibitions to show current design developments during the Venice Architecture Biennale. It brings together international set of designers of diverse cultural background, young, senior, established and emerging.

The exhibition aims to demonstrate that design might have a bigger canvas than just creating beautiful functional objects. It is a chance for the spectators to see clever, unexpected solutions for the use of space and also to create a more conscious relation towards the daily surrounding and help to enlarge the awareness for the extraordinary impact design has on the way humans feel, reason and behave – in short, on their existence.

Participants from 17 countries come to present their ideas and stories: from the use of traditional 1000-year old techniques in modern days to the most innovative technological solutions available. Their work shows how powerful an everyday piece can be and its ability to express and represent rituals, cultural particularities and embody human emotions.”

To mark the exhibition “Almost Secret,” Inventario and the Museo Poldi Pezzoli present a new reflection on an issue that, over time, has raised the interest of the creative worlds of art, design and architecture: the drawer. The book published to accompany the exhibition is therefore a collection of projects on the theme of drawers and chests of drawers, important elements in the history of furniture, functional containers, capable of collecting, containing, sorting and hiding, but also able to rekindle memories and nourish thinking.

Among the pages of Almost Secret, there are works of art and design objects around the theme of the drawer, the subject of ongoing experimentation on the part of grand masters as well as new protagonists of design and visual arts. Essays by Beppe Finessi, Annalisa Zanni, Stefano Salis and Francesco M. Cataluccio tackle the research object, which are illustrated in the book with over 140 images of significant works, from Shiro Kuramata to Ettore Sottsass, from Alessandro Mendini to Raw Edges, and from Los Carpinteros to Salvador Dalí.

„Nie zuvor hatten Heimtiere einen derartigen Stellenwert in unserer Gesellschaft: In ca. 15 Millionen Haushalten in Deutschland werden Heimtiere gehalten; in den USA gibt es mittlerweile mehr Haushalte mit Heimtieren als mit Kindern. PET MARKET beleuchtet die komplexen und vielfältigen Beziehungen zwischen Menschen und Heimtieren aus der Perspektive des Designs und gibt Ausblicke und Anregungen für das Zusammenleben von Mensch und Tier im urbanen Raum. Parallel zum DMY – Internationales Designfestival Berlin und dem Make City Festival für Architektur & Andersmachen, ist PET MARKET vom 13.–20. Juni 2015 in der Galerie erstererster im Berliner Prenzlauer Berg geöffnet.“

PET MARKET lädt ein, sich beim Flanieren durch das vielseitige Sortiment inspirieren und verführen zu lassen, aber auch es zu hinterfragen, darüber zu schmunzeln und zu diskutieren.
Zwölf internationale Designer und Künstler als auch neun Studierende und Lehrende der Kunsthochschule Kassel haben exklusiv für PET MARKET Produkte entwickelt. Die Produktpalette reicht von Neuinterpretationen der beliebten Katzen-Kratzbäume mit dem Entwurf ‚Kaze 100, Modell Fungi‘ von Max Kosoric und Sanne Pawelzyk, bis hin zu Vorschlägen wie Dominik Hehls ‚Open Cage‘, die ein Zusammenleben mit Tieren ermöglichen, ohne sie zu besitzen. Künstliche Alternativen zu Heimtieren bieten der Entwurf ‚Purrrrrr‘ von Dietrich Luft und die ‚TweetingBitPlant‘ von Olaf Val. Martí Guixés 1998 erstmals gezeigte Installation ‚Fish Futures‘ hingegen konfrontiert uns mit der Frage, welche Lebensbedingungen wir uns und anderen Lebewesen schaffen.

›Out of the Ordinary‹ Solo – exhibition ›Out of the Ordinary‹ at stilwerk limited edition design gallery Hamburg

Location: stilwerk design gallery at stilwerk Hamburg (5th floor) is stilwerk design gallery’s first exhibition of work by designer Silvia Knüppel.
The exhibition covers works from 2007 to 2015 and spans the multi-faceted design concept of the Hamburg-based artist.

In addition to these recurring themes of storage and order, one aspect pervades all Silvia Knüppel’s objects – a moment of alienation and confusion, of dysfunction, which unveils the designer’s intention. Silvia Knüppel is not satisfied by merely producing the nth version of a conventional item of furniture; she always seeks to go further, leaving the boundaries of simple function far behind.
